Restorative Yoga Teacher Training - Through a Trauma Aware Lens
You might be feeling…
You might be feeling drawn to teach in a slower, more intentional way, but unsure how to hold space for deep rest.
Perhaps you feel confident guiding movement, yet less certain when it comes to stillness, silence, and supporting your students’ nervous systems.
You may be curious about restorative yoga and want to understand how and why trauma-aware principles matter in this practice.
Or maybe you’re simply ready to create classes that feel safe, inclusive, and deeply supportive — for both your students and yourself.
If this sounds like you, this 25-hour Restorative Yoga Teacher Training - Through a Trauma Aware Lens will provide the tools, language, and confidence to guide restorative practices that honour choice, agency, and supported rest.
You step into the room feeling grounded and confident & clear in your intention and language.
Your students settle in, knowing they’re supported to rest, to move, or to simply be.
There’s no rush, no pressure, just a space of quiet support and genuine care.Your cues land softly, offering choice rather than direction, and you can feel the space at ease.
This is the essence of restorative yoga when taught through a trauma-aware lens — a practice that not only supports rest but invites safety, presence, and trust.
Now imagine this…
INTRODUCING
Restorative Yoga Teacher Training - Through a Trauma Aware Lens
Restorative yoga is more than stillness and shapes — it’s the art of creating spaces where rest feels, supportive, and accessible.
In this 25-hour training, we will explore the foundations of restorative yoga & trauma-aware teaching, with a focus on language, inclusion, and the subtle practices that allow the whole body to feel supported. Together we’ll weave practical tools, embodied learning, and reflective discussions so you can confidently guide restorative practices that honour choice, agency, and the diverse needs of students.
We’ll explore restorative yoga shapes, how to sequence in a way that feels supportive to your students, and how to access restorative shapes when props are not always available. You’ll also learn how to weave trauma-aware language into your teaching — and why it matters. The way we cue has the power to impact the space, and reduce pressure, so students can soften into rest with a greater sense of trust in themselves and the space.
This training is designed for yoga teachers and space-holders who want to deepen their understanding of restorative yoga and cultivate spaces where students can feel grounded, welcomed, and held.

About Andrea
You’re learning from someone who’s worked for over 15 years in mental health and trauma support — not just in studios, but across community sectors, crisis spaces, and support services.
My lens is shaped by both personal and professional experience — which means I know how language lands when it’s helpful… and when it’s not.
You don’t need to be a therapist to teach inclusively. You just need to be thoughtful. I want to learn, grow and evolve, and create a space that is for your student to feel safe and seen.
I break it down in a way that’s simple, supportive, and totally doable. This space isn’t about calling teachers out. It’s about calling us all in — with curiosity, compassion, and cues that actually land - because I use them every single time I teach.
By the end of this training, you’ll be able to
Confidently teach restorative yoga classes that are trauma-aware, inclusive, and accessible.
Adapt restorative shapes to meet students’ individual needs, sequence in a way that is practical - including when props are limited.
Understand how restorative yoga supports the nervous system and the body’s capacity for rest
Recognise your scope of practice and confidently navigate your role as a trauma-aware teacher.
Create and hold spaces where students feel welcome, supported, and free to move or rest in their own way.
Cultivate a teaching approach that balances professional knowledge with compassion, empathy, and self-awareness.
You’ll receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the training, which can be provided to any studio that requires evidence of training to teach restorative yoga.
It’s important to know that you don’t need to be registered with Yoga Australia or Yoga Alliance to teach yoga or facilitate teacher trainings. These registrations are completely optional — they’re not governing bodies, but private organisations that teachers can choose to align with if it feels right for them.
This training has been designed with the same level of integrity, structure, and educational depth you’d expect from any high-quality yoga teacher training, simply without the need for external registration.
You’ll be learning from an experienced facilitator with over 15 years of experience holding space across the yoga and mental health sectors. The content is evidence-informed, trauma-aware, and grounded in nervous system education, reflective practice, and teaching methodology.
The course includes -
• A clear framework of theory, practice, and reflection
• Practical tools you can apply immediately in your classes
• Comprehensive written materials and resources
• Ongoing support and integration opportunities
Many respected and experienced teachers in Australia and beyond are not registered with either Yoga Alliance or Yoga Australia — yet their trainings hold immense depth, integrity, and value.
This information is shared so you can make an informed, confident decision about the training that feels most aligned for you and your teaching journey.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
This training is designed for yoga teachers, recent graduates, and experienced space-holders who want to deepen their understanding of restorative yoga and trauma-aware principles. It’s also suitable for teachers in other movement modalities who wish to integrate restorative and supportive practices into their work.

While both practices appear slow and still, their intention and impact are quite different.
Yin Yoga gently stresses the connective tissues — such as fascia, ligaments, and joints — to support mobility and functional range of motion. Shapes are held for longer periods, often with mild sensation, and the aim is physical release and energetic balance.
Restorative Yoga, on the other hand, is not about stretch or sensation. It’s about rest. Each shape is fully supported with props to remove effort, inviting the nervous system to settle and the body to shift into deep rest and repair.
In restorative yoga, we use trauma-aware language, pacing, and environment to help students feel safe enough to soften — making it a practice of restoration rather than intensity.
-
Teaching restorative yoga through a trauma-informed lens allows you to offer rest in a way that feels truly safe, supportive, and inclusive. Restorative yoga invites deep stillness — but stillness can be confronting for many students, especially those carrying stress, burnout, or trauma.
A trauma-aware approach helps you recognise how the nervous system responds to rest, and how your language, pacing, and presence can create a sense of safety and trust. It’s not about changing what you teach, but how you teach — using awareness, choice, and respect to ensure every student feels welcome to meet the practice in their own way.
Ultimately, it allows restorative yoga to be more than just shapes and props — it becomes a practice of empowerment, self-awareness, and deep rest.
-
Not at all. The training will meet you where you are. You’ll gain both foundational knowledge and practical tools to confidently introduce restorative practices into your teaching.
-
This isn’t a full trauma-informed yoga training — those are often in-depth, multi-layered offerings that explore a wide range of topics.
However, this training is absolutely grounded in trauma-aware and inclusive teaching principles, especially through the lens of language. You’ll walk away with practical, accessible tools to support safer, more student-centred classes, that will filter into every style you teach.
-
The truth is, you won’t always know who in your class has experienced trauma — and trauma can show up in many ways.
This training isn’t a full trauma-informed certification, so if you’re planning to work specifically with people who identify as living with trauma (for example, offering classesf or trauma survivors), that requires deeper knowledge, specific skills, and ongoing education.
What this training does offer is a strong foundation in language and principles that support choice, agency, and you’ll walk away with more awareness and practical tools — and it may even spark your next steps in trauma-informed learning.
If you’re looking to go deeper into trauma-informed education, I am co facilitating a 40 hour in person training in May on the Sunshine Coast - please find it here.

It’s also important to know that you don’t need to be registered with Yoga Australia or Yoga Alliance to teach yoga or facilitate teacher trainings.
These registrations are completely optional — they’re not a requirement to share, teach, or facilitate yoga classes or trainings.
They are not governing bodies, they are private organisations that teachers can choose to align with if it feels right for them.I have personally never been registered with either organisation, and it has never impacted my ability to teach in studios, run events, workshops, or offer private sessions.
Many of the most experienced and respected teachers I’ve learned from are also not registered, yet their teachings and trainings have offered immense value, integrity, and depth.

“Andrea’s cues are soft, warm, and genuinely supportive, guiding you gently back to yourself.”
Andrea is, without a doubt, the most nurturing and grounding yoga teacher I’ve ever experienced.
Her restorative and yin classes are a true gift and every session feels like a safe space to completely let go. Without fail, I find myself tearing up from the sheer sense of wholehearted safety and calm she creates.
Andrea’s cues are soft, warm, and genuinely supportive, guiding you gently back to yourself. One of my favourite things she says is that it’s your time, you can use it however you like even if you just lie there in one shape for the whole class.
That permission, that compassion, makes every class feel deeply personal and healing. Her voice is incredibly soothing, her energy is grounding, and her approach embodies everything restorative yoga is meant to be.
I can’t recommend Andrea highly enough, her classes are truly an experience for the mind, body, and heart.
If you’re a movement teacher who feels called to guide slower, more supportive practices — but you’re not quite sure how to hold space for deep rest — this 25-hour Restorative Yoga Teacher Training is a place you can begin.
